Georgetown Vs. Memphis: Hoyas Lead Tigers At Half, 40-36

Just over halfway through the first period, Georgetown went on an 11-3 run to regain the lead over Memphis. The Hoyas have a potent offense, and as soon as the Tigers relaxed, Georgetown took advantage.

Memphis switched to the zone occasionally, and as a result were able to get some steals. They weren’t able to convert, however, and Georgetown maintained their lead. The Hoyas hit from all over the court, making long threes (they’ve made 12 or more threes four times already this season) and driving layups.

Memphis was no slouch on the offensive end, and not just with their shooting. They are crashing the offensive boards, picking up 7 rebounds on their end of the floor. Many possessions that looked to end in broken plays or turnovers resulted in points when the Tigers kept their composure and were able to stick with it and score.

With just over a minute to go, Memphis dug down and crawled back, bringing the score to within two, but each time Georgetown’s precision of execution on offense allowed them to stay ahead.

Memphis guard Will Barton is leading all scorers with 14, followed closely behind by Georgetown guards Austin Freeman and Chris Wright who both have 11. Georgetown is playing a team game, with a total of 11 assists on 16 field goals, and shooting 51.6% from the floor. The Tigers remain perfect from the free throw line.
