No. 4 Kansas Vs. UCLA: Jayhawks Escape Pac-10/Big 12 Hardwood Series With Controversial Win, 77-76

The Kansas Jayhawks extended their home winning-streak to 64 games by squeaking out a win over the UCLA Bruins in the Pac-10/Big 12 Hardwood Series, 77-76. It didn’t come without controversy, however. After Tyler Honeycutt hit a three-pointer with just five seconds left to tie the game at 76, UCLA guard Malcom Lee was whistled for a foul on a desperation shot with just .5 seconds left. Mario Little calmly stepped to the line, hitting the game-winning free throw to seal the game.

Honeycutt gave the Jayhawks all they could handle, finishing with 33 points, nine rebounds and four assists, two steals and a block. The sophomore forward was deadly from the field, connecting on 11-15 shots, including 5-6 three pointers. Honeycutt was joined in double figures by highly-touted freshman Josh Smith (17 points) and Lazeric Jones (11). Smith also pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds off the bench.

Kansas used a more balanced attack, picking up 17 points a piece from Tyrel Reed and Tyshawn Taylor. Marcus Morris was close-behind with 16 points and six rebounds. Little, the hero of the night, scored nine points and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds for the Jayhawks.

Kansas improved to 7-0 on the season with the Hardwood Series win. UCLA fell to .500 on the year, at 3-3.
