The very first play of the second half was a made three-point basket by Keith Appling for Michigan State. Following that play, the Badgers committed the first turnover by either team in 13 minutes. A series of firsts in the first few moments. The Spartans took their first lead 3 minutes in, but the Badgers came roaring back. Michigan State found their outside shot and the lead began to see-saw.

In a role reversal, the Badgers missed seven consecutive three point shots before Keaton Nankivil hit one with 14:10 to play. His made shot put Wisconsin back on top, if only by 2 points. The Badgers continued to play their set offense and run down the shot clock, but a newly-eager Michigan State defense effectively stifled their production. Halfway through the second period, the shooting percentages swapped, and the Spartans climbed to 39.2% for the game, while the Badgers dropped to 31% shooting in the 2nd half.
Both teams are seeing minimal production from their bench players.
