PHOTO: Oregon’s New Basketball Court May Cause Retina Damage

The Oregon Ducks unveiled their newest toy on Thursday night, an impressive $200 million basketball arena. Matthew Knight Arena, named after Nike founder Phil Knight's son, is truly a top-notch facility, with amenities that rival many of the best NBA arenas.

While the arena itself is great, the court looks like a mushroom trip gone horribly wrong. The design incorporates a number of symbolic elements -- as explained by Knight himself before the game -- but it’s the trees and the multi-colored hardwood that makes watching a game on TV nearly impossible.

Out of respect for your retinas -- and the space limitations of the sidebar -- the image is located after the jump. Be forewarned, it may cause seizures.

I’m not sure if the picture accurately portrays just how difficult it is to watch a game at the new Matt Court. It’s downright disorienting. Add the glare from the advertisements lining the bowl and it becomes headache-inducing to watch. With all the money spent, you’d think they’d be able to figure out how to design an arena that didn’t incorporate a glare that could double as a death-ray.

Did you expect anything less from the Ducks, though? We’re talking about a school whose football uniforms are the most polarizing in college football, with each new combination worthy of national attention. Always looking to set a trend, the Ducks may have gone too far with Matt Court and its eye-popping design.

Then again, at least the court isn’t highlighter yellow.
