The early round of tonight’s big Big Monday Big East matchup (it’s big!) between the Syracuse Orange and Pittsburgh Panthers has gone in Pitt’s favor, and to an amazing degree. Seven minutes in the Orange have yet to hit a shot and are down 17-0. I said 17-0.
Syracuse Vs. Pittsburgh: Pitt Scores First (And Second And Third ... )
Pitt’s Nasir Robinson has been lethal, hitting four of his five shots to reach nine points already. That’s nine points more than Cuse, which doesn’t have any. Pitt is owning the boards (12 to three), playing ridiculous defense (forcing two steals and blocking a shot), and making Syracuse work for everything.
Eight minutes in Syracuse hit its first shot, a three-pointer by Scoop Jardine. Pitt’s crowd sarcastically applauded the score, then regretted it once Dion Walters added a layup and C.J. Fair scored in the lane to put the Orange on a blistering 7-0 run. It’s now 19-7.
