The Alabama Crimson Tide held off a hard-charging Kentucky Wildcats squad on Tuesday to pull the upset in Tuscaloosa. Ben Eblen came up with a huge steal with under 10 seconds to go, hitting one of two free throws to push the Alabama lead to two. Terrence Jones’ shot from half court at the buzzer was too strong, giving Alabama a 68-66 win over the 12th-ranked Wildcats.

Kentucky fought back from as many as 16 down in the second half, closing the gap to one point with under a minute to go. Back-to-back charges on each end of the court gave the Wildcats a chance for one final shot. The Alabama defense, and Eblen, had other ideas, spoiling any chance at the comeback with the huge steal.
JaMychal Green scored a game-high 18 points for Alabama in the win. Green also added a team-high 11 rebounds. Tony Mitchell was the only other player in double figures, scoring 15 points for the Crimson Tide. Charvez Davis had nine points, with Chris Hines adding seven points and eight rebounds.
Jones led the way for the Wildcats with 17 points and nine rebounds. Doron Lamb was close behind with 16 points and two rebounds. Brandon Knight (14 points) and Darius Miller (12) were also in double-figures for Kentucky.
The loss was Kentucky’s fourth of the season and second in SEC play, dropping them to 14-4 on the year and 2-2 in the conference. Alabama improved to 11-7 on the season and 3-1 in the SEC. For now, the Crimson Tide are alone in first place in the SEC West.
