The first half of the battle for the hoops heart of Texas went to the Texas Longhorns, who piled up a 39-27 lead over the Texas A&M Aggies. The Horns have led by margins like 10-2 and 20-4 along the way, so that halftime score is about as good as it could be for Aggies fans.
Texas A&M Vs. Texas: Tristan Thompson’s Scoring Leads Longhorns To Halftime Lead
Horns forward Tristan Thompson has 13 points to lead all scorers, followed by Aggies forward Khris Middleton’s 12. Texas is controlling the glass 17 to 11 on the strength of Jordan Hamilton’s seven boards.
Texas is shooting 50 percent to A&M’s 40, and has gotten to the free throw line six more times.
The Aggies have some work to do if they want to keep their one-loss season alive, but they’re going to need to start asserting themselves on defense and on the boards. Texas A&M hasn’t lost in almost two months.
