St. John’s basketball made sure a weekend stocked with upsets didn’t have a disappointing Sunday, sending the Duke Blue Devils home 93-78 losers from Madison Square Garden. This is only Duke’s second loss of the year, and makes a very strong case for the Big East being basketball’s dominant conference.
Duke Vs. St. John’s Final Score: Red Storm Basketball Takes 93-78 Win Over Defending Champs
Already facing a huge disadvantage coming out of the break, Duke committed enough fouls to get into bonus territory just minutes into the second half. St. John’s was thus able to play very conservatively, finishing with 33 free throws, hitting 26.
Nolan Smith and Kyle Singler scored for the Blue Devils, putting up a combined 52, but nobody else was able to get involved in the offense. Duke missed 21 three-pointers on the day, with 10 of those coming from the two stars. Storm stars Dwight Hardy and Justin Brownlee both finished with more than 20 points.
Duke, now 19-2, concludes their road trip at the Maryland Terrapins. 12-8 St. John’s gets Rutgers at home.
