When the Coaches Poll was released Monday, eight Big East teams were among the Top 25. Not among those chosen eight were the 9-3 St. John's Red Storm. Having lost to St. Bonaventure and Fordham in weeks prior, that's understandable.
St. John’s Has Only Just Begun The January Gauntlet
Now, the Johnnies may have turned a corner with their 61-58 win over No. 13 Georgetown Monday night. A win over a ranked team can help reshape a team’s season from also-ran into NCAA Tourney contender. If that’s the case, the Red Storm has a chance to remake the entire perception of their program in one month.
Including those already played, St. John’s plays nine games in the month of January. Seven of those games are against ranked teams, including a game against the No. 4 team in the nation and, to top it all off, a nationally-televised tilt against the No. 1 team in the land.
Steve Lavin, it’s go-time.
