Kansas Declares Freshmen Ben McLemore, Jamari Traylor Ineligible

Kansas Jayhawks coach Bill Self said Friday that freshmen Ben McLemore and Jamari Traylor have been declared “partial qualifiers” by the NCAA and will not be eligible to play in the upcoming college basketball season.

Kansas Jayhawks coach Bill Self said Friday that freshmen Ben McLemore and Jamari Traylor have been declared "partial qualifiers" by the NCAA and will not be eligible to play in the upcoming college basketball season.

They cannot begin practicing until after the fall semester as well.

Both McLemore and Traylor attended three high schools and bounced around so much, their transcripts got a little fuzzy. McLemore started his high school career at Wellston High in his hometown. Last year, he attended both Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va., and Christian Life Center in Houston. Traylor attended Fenger and Julian High Schools in Chicago and IMG Academy in Florida last year.

The ruling means that a Kansas team looking to reload is left very thin with only half of the incoming class actually finding their way to the court this fall. While neither was expected to be a game changer, the accumulating effect of the three rulings makes for a pretty fuzzy picture for Bill Self.
