Michael Beasley filed a countersuit against Bell Sports Incorporated and DC Assault co-founder Herman C. Malone alleging the two violated federal agent laws and NCAA rules while courting him as a potential client. Joel Bell, president of Bell Sports, allegedly funneled money and gifts to Beasley and his family in hopes of representing him after he turned professional.
Michael Beasley Files Lawsuit Alleging He Received Improper Benefits
Michael Beasley filed a lawsuit against his former agent alleging he was given improper benefits up to and throughout his collegiate career at Kansas State.

Earlier this year, Bell sued Beasley for terminating his representation and denying him commission for services rendered. Beasley’s counter-suit alleges Bell took advantage of him and that he was denied a proper chance to secure representation as a result.
Beasley’s lawsuit contends that Bell’s relationship with Malone and payments to Beasley’s mother were “intended, ultimately, improperly to induce Beasley into executing a player agent agreement without competition from other agents.”
When asked to provide evidence that supports the allegations, Beasley’s attorney Mark A. Smith said, “I am confident that, should this matter go to trial, I will have sufficient testimonial and documentary proof of the allegations made in the counterclaim. . . .
It’s unclear if Beasley’s lawsuit and allegations of improper benefits will have an affect on Kansas State. Beasley spent a year with the Wildcats before turning professional and entering the 2008 NBA Draft. If nothing else, it offers a glimpse into the seedy underbelly of AAU basketball and agents.
We’ll be back with more on the lawsuit and it’s potential ramifications as it becomes available.
