SDSU Vs. Baylor 2011 Recap: Heslip’s 16 Lead Bears To Victory

Quincy Miller scored 20 points, Brady Heslip had 16 and the No. 11 Baylor Bears remained undefeated with a 77-67 victory over the San Diego State Aztecs Tuesday.

Baylor (3-0) won its 21st straight non-conference home game and improved to 33-4 overall at Ferrell Center in the last three seasons. Quincy Acy added 13 points for the Bears, including five in a row to spark an important 10-0 run in the second half.

Chase Tapley poured in 28 points for the Aztecs, who suffered their first loss after opening the season with three home wins in three days over the weekend. It was only their fourth loss (37-4) since the start of last season.

San Diego State proved pesky after falling behind by 16 points midway through the second half, but never got closer than seven and shot just 35.6 percent for the game.

Baylor carried a two-point lead into the second half and the game remained close until the Bears began to take control with a 10-0 run. After Acy scored the first five points, Miller added three and Heslip’s jumper capped the surge to make it 46-34 with around 13 minutes left in the game.

Baylor's lead grew to 16 on a fastbreak layup by Deuce Bello with 9:20 left, giving the Bears a 55-39 advantage. Later, a 6-0 burst cut the Aztecs' deficit from 13 points to seven inside two minutes, but Miller's jumper stopped the bleeding to give Baylor a 70-61 lead and it was never closer than that.
