No. 7 Louisville vs. Arkansas State Recap: Cardinals Hold Red Wolves To 27 Points In Win

No. 7 Louisville held Arkansas State to just 27 points without starting point guard Peyton Siva, proving that just because you score 54 points doesn’t mean you can’t double your opponent’s score.

It was a low-scoring game in Louisville's new home, the KFC Yum! Center (seriously, that's its name), as the No. 7 Cardinals stifled the Arkansas State Red Wolves, 54-27. Playing without Peyton Siva, the Cardinals struggled to score but had no problems dominating the defensive side of ball, holding the Red Wolves to 24.4 percent shooting from the floor and, indicative of any terrific defensive performance, 33.3 percent free throw shooting.

The Cardinals were led by senior Kyle Kuric with a whopping 12 points to go along with three rebounds. Backup point guard Chris Smith had five points and seven assists — he made the key pass on 37 percent of Louisville's field goals — but the star of the game was the team's defense. Holding any team, regardless of level, to 27 points is an accomplishment. It would have been even more impressive, though, had the Red Wolves made more than six of their 18 free throw attempts.
