After being upset Nov. 16 against Long Beach State in their last game, the No. 16 Pittsburgh Panthers needed to bounce back against intrastate opponent LaSalle. Though they won the game, 73-69, the Panthers didn't show anyone that they're worthy of a Top 25 ranking after almost falling for a second straight game against a mid-major foe.

Pitt was led by junior point guard Travon Goodall's double-double — 12 points, 10 assists — and the 5-foot-11 Brooklyn native pitched in three blocks for good measure. Nasir Robinson led the Panthers in scoring with 17 points, and Ashton Gibbs managed 14 despite shooting 3-15 from the field, but there are bigger issues at hand for the Panthers. Pitt blog Cardiac Hill breaks it down:

The team just looked downright sloppy and apathetic tonight. Not sure what it was - you could blame it on lackluster competition or even the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, but Pitt didn’t really come ready to play. They did open up an 11-point lead in the first half, but the game was close throughout and the Panthers never did much in the way of trying to force the issue.

Pitt visits Penn on Friday, an Ivy League team that’s always tough and could give the underperforming Panthers another challenge.
