Minnesota's star forward Trevor Mbakwe will miss the rest of the season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. The preseason third team All-American selection suffered the injury in the first half of the Golden Golphers' loss to Dayton in the championship game of the Old Spice Classic on Sunday.
Minnesota Star Trevor Mbakwe Out For The Season With ACL Tear
Minnesota Golden Gopher star Trevor Mbakwe will miss the rest of his senior season with a torn ACL.

The senior will have surgery to repair the injury sometime in the next few weeks.
“We are certainly going to miss him,” said Minnesota coach Tubby Smith in a released statement. “He’s having a great year. He’s our leader. He’s been a big emotional leader for us. Our players look up to Trevor, not just because of his talent, but because of his work ethic, and the type of person he’s been.”
Mbakwe had been leading the Golden Gophers in both scoring and rebounding at 14.0 points per game and 9.1 rebounds per game.
Minnesota had been 6-0 before Sunday’s loss to the Flyers, but this an enormous blow to their chances of making the NCAA Tournament. Mbakwe was the only Golden Gopher averaging more than 3.7 rebounds.
