Two-time defending national runner-up Butler was stunned at the buzzer by Northern State when Alex Thomas buried his only three of the game to give the D-II Wolves a 53-50 win.
Butler Shocked By Northern State In Exhibition
↵The upset came just one night after Northern State was thumped 78-46 at Purdue.
↵Andrew Smith’s 19 points led the way for the Bulldogs, who shot just 18-of-55 (33%) from the field. That’s still like 31% better than they did in the national title game.
↵I’d like to remind everyone at this point that Butler did not even win the Horizon League regular season title a year ago. I’ve learned my lesson; until the Bulldogs are 100% eliminated from postseason play, I won’t discount their chances of crashing the Final Four.
