The only real tight game on Tuesday was LSU’s one-point victory over Houston, and that was...well, it was LSU playing Houston. So we’ll cop out and just go with the most significant result of the evening.

UPSET OF THE DAY: Virginia 70, No. 13 Michigan 58
The Maui hangover that doomed Tennessee and plagued Georgetown for a half on Monday bit both Duke and Michigan a day later. Mike Scott had 18 points and 11 rebounds as Virginia used a 19-2 run in the second half to take command and upset the 13th-ranked Wolverines in the Big Ten-ACC Challenge.
The same Michigan offense that looked poised and crisp in Maui appeared lazy and disjointed against a Cavalier team that has smothered opponents this season.
“I’m not crazy about scoring 58 points,” Michigan coach john Beilein said. “But not a lot of teams may score 58 points against them. Thank goodness we made some threes to be able to do that.”
RUNNER-UPSET OF THE DAY: Loyola Marymount 75, No. 23 Saint Louis 68
The Lions, who shocked UCLA in their season-opener, picked up their second victory over a top 25 team by handing visiting Saint Louis its first loss.
It’s hard to fault the Billikens, who have played five of their first seven games on the road and were coming off of a title at the 76 Classic in Anaheim.
“We weren’t as focused,” coach Rick Majerus said. “There was a subliminal complacency by our team.”
Even if SLU was sort of sleep walking through the whole thing, Loyola Marymount’s victory is yet another notable triumph for the West Coast Conference, which has had a monster November. With the addition of BYU and strong starts by both LMU and Santa Clara, the league’s top five appears tougher than its been in a long time.
PLAYER OF THE DAY: Perry Jones, Baylor
The sophomore player of the year candidate connected on 10-of-14 shots on his way to scoring 27 points in his season-debut. No. 7 Baylor had no problem with Prairie View A&M.

HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY:
Austin Rivers picked the right game to give somewhat of a breakout performance. Unfortunately, his teammates did not follow suit.
FIVE TO END
1. The Big Ten leads the ACC 4-2 after day one of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. Illinois and Northwestern both satyed unbeaten while Iowa was dealt a fairly humiliating loss by Clemson.
2. In that loss to Illinois, Maryland managed just five assists. The win was also the 200th for Illini head coach Bruce Weber.
3. Baylor got Perry Jones back on Tuesday but it played without freshman star Quincy Miller. Miller is dealing with a sprained ankle, but is expected to play in Sunday's game against Northwestern.
4. Oregon knocked off UTEP 64-59, but that news was tainted by the announcement that freshman Bruce Barron had quit the team. Barron becomes the second freshman to leave the program in two weeks, joining Jabari Green who is transferring to San Diego State. Not good a positive sign for the Dana Altman era in Eugene.
5. Austin Hatch, the Michigan commit who survived a deadly plane crash for the second time in his life last June, is unlikely to play basketball this season.
