The No. 8 UConn Huskies hosted Fairfield Thursday night in what many expected to be a cakewalk for the defending national champion, and it very much looked that way in the first half. UConn was up 20 points at halftime, led by Shabazz Napier who scored 16 points with three assists.
No. 8 UConn Holds Off Furious Fairfield Rally for 79-71 Win
The No. 8 UConn Huskies held off the Fairfield Stags, 79-71, after allowing them to reduce a 20-point deficit to three with less than two minutes to go.

The second half, though was the opposite story. Fairfield scored 45 points in the second half to UConn's 33, and, at one point, cut the lead to three with just more than a minute to go before Ryan Boatright nailed a three-pointer and Jeremy Lamb had a dunk to put the game away for good, and the Huskies went on to win 79-71
Napier led all scorers with 26 points, and added six rebounds for good measure. Lamb had 18 and Andre Drummond filled up the stat sheet with 16 points, nine rebounds, four steals and two blocks. Boston College transfer Rakim Sanders put in 20 for the Stags.
