There seem to be few things that Harvard University hasn’t accomplished, but before today, having its men’s basketball team ranked in either major national poll was one. The 8-0 Crimson had been one of eight Division-I programs in existence since 1948 never to be ranked before appearing in Monday’s USA Today/ESPN poll at No. 24 and the Associated Press poll at No. 25.
NCAA Basketball Rankings: Kentucky Stays On Top In Both Polls, Harvard Earns First National Ranking
Thanks in large part to its one-point victory over North Carolina on Saturday, Kentucky held on to the No. 1 spot in both the USA Today/ESPN and Associated Press top 25.
Kentucky held onto the top spot in both polls for the second straight week. The Wildcats earned 47 of the 65 first-place votes from the AP, and 19 of the 31 first-place votes from the coaches.
Ohio State, which garnered the other 18 first-place votes from the coaches and 11 from the Associated Press, Syracuse, Louisville and Duke rounded out the top five in the USA Today/ESPN poll. The top three were the same on the AP side of things, but North Carolina actually moved up from No. 5 to No. 4 despite losing to Kentucky on Saturday. Louisville jumped one spot to No. 5.
