Karen Sypher Gets 87 Months In Prison For Extortion Attempt

And so, Rick Pitino’ long, national nightmare ends. He hopes.

↵Karen Cunagin Sypher was sentenced Friday to 7 years and 3 months in prison for her attempt to extort cash, cars and a home from Louisville coach Rick Pitino. Sypher had been convicted back in August.

↵The judge in this case called Sypher’s actions “an egregious attempt to gain money,” though he actually gave her the lightest sentence possible. Once she’s out of prison, Sypher will be on probation for two years and is forbidden from contacting Pitino and his family.

↵Sypher continues to maintain her innocence.

↵All things equal, considering the mess this looked like when it started, Pitino can now move on and keep his focus on basketball. And probably family. I’m thinking that might be smart.
