Nebraska has chalked up the second major upset of a busy Saturday. The unranked Cornhuskers rallied to deal a huge upset to their Big 12 rival, No. 3 Texas, but not before the Longhorns assembled a stunning rally in the final minutes to nearly walk away with the win.
Nebraska 70, Texas 67, Final Score: Cornhuskers Hang On For Huge Upset Of No. 3 Longhorns
With under two minutes remaining, Nebraska led at home. 63-54. Then both teams took turns heading to the line, and while Texas was sinking every free throw, most of Nebraska’s weren’t falling. And within 45 seconds, the Longhorns had pieced together an incredible 12-1 run to tie the game at 65.
Nebraska re-took the lead with two free throws from Brandon Richardson. Down by three points with 13 seconds left, Texas' J'Covan Brown drew a foul on a three-point shot, but missed his first free throw. A last-second three-point heave from Brown was off, and Nebraska held on for the upset, 70-67.
This ruins the Longhorns’ perfect Big 12 record, as they fall to 11-1 in the conference. Nebraska improves to 6-6 in the Big 12, and 18-8 overall.
