Remember When Len Bias Killed UNC?

Exactly 25 years ago today, the myth of the Len Bias was still a secret. Then Maryland went to North Carolina, beat the no. 1 team in America, Bias scored 35 points, and this happened:

↵Just like that, Maryland’s secret became America’s next big superstar.

↵Obviously, Bias’ story didn’t end the way it should have, but over at Slate, Tom Scocca remembers Bias’ coming-out party, and 25 years later, it’s a pretty cool look back at what Len Bias meant to basketball fans then, as a basketball player, just a few months before The Meaning of Len Bias would come to dwarf anything he’d ever done on a basketball court.
