It had been 26 years since the men’s basketball at the California Institute of Technology (or, “Caltech”) won a game in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. That span included 310(!) games, all losses, and it all ended on Tuesday night, when the Beavers survived vs. Occidental, winning 46-45 in the final home game of their season.

As the game went final, one of the announcers shouted, “Do you believe in miracles?!”
At which point one student stood up, straightened his glasses on his nose, and said, “NO, actually, but I believe in the inevitability of numbers and chance.” ... Then they all got drunk and burned some couches because, hey! That’s what you do after a big upset.
And even if none of that happened... It still looks like they had some fun in Pasadena last night.
Ryan Elmquist, the leading scorer in last night’s game, will work for Google next year, and when joking about the nerdiness of Caltech, let’s be careful to note that it’s all done knowing that, indeed, we will all work for them one day.In the meantime, though, Caltech’s basketball team can be proud that they no longer have the most infamous losing streak in sports.
Now they can simply be known for having the absolute whitest basketball photo I’ve ever seen.
