Stop the presses, hide yo kids, and hide yo wife. Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith are on CBS's Selection Sunday show, thanks to the new joint March Madness broadcasting deal between CBS and Turner. Unsurprisingly, they are awesome. While Greg Gumbel is no Ernie Johnson (no disrespect to GG intended), Barkley and Smith have made a wildly entertaining addition to a broadcast team that was often a bit too dry with Greg Anthony and Seth Davis at the desk next to Gumbel.
Selection Sunday’s Latest And Greatest Additions: Charles Barkley And Kenny Smith
Regular viewers of the NBA on TNT are well aware of the great chemistry and banter between Barkley and Smith, and it’s fantastic that they’ve been added to the college realm. Because, really, Barkley and Smith should just be on television more often no matter the occasion. I say we put them on lacrosse, bowling, curling, whatever sport is lacking coverage from a couple of funny dudes who are unafraid to speak their mind.
The best part of this new desk team is the possibility for banter between Barkley and Davis. It’s not exactly an uncommon occurrence for Davis to throw out a very unconventional opinion, and it will be hilarious if Barkley starts challenging him on a regular basis. Anthony and Gumbel often let Davis get away with whatever he wants, and it always makes for better studio shows when someone is getting challenged, especially by a guy like Barkley.
