March Madness brackets are the Valentine’s Day of March, in that people on the Internet enjoy telling you that they aren’t participating in it. Thankfully, there are still at least 3.1 million people who like things that are fun. From CNBC’s Darren Rovell:
ESPN’s March Madness Bracket Filled Out Over Six Million Times
↵↵As of 10:30 a.m. ET, ESPN.com has 6,248,522 bracket entries, up 15% from last year, from 3.1 million users.
↵↵That figure doesn’t include the bracket filled out on SportsCenter by President Obama, who, according to the National Review, busied himself with the NCAA Tournament because he wanted to avoid doing his job. If the same can be said of the rest of the bracket participants, there is going to be a lot of un-baked bread, non-plumbed pipes, and mal-butched meat products.
↵And in case you’re curious: no, it would be impossible for all of these entries to be the work of a single wiseguy who is trying to cover every single conceivable outcome. One would need 29,514,790,500,000,000,000 brackets in order to do that -- in other words, we would need to multiply our efforts this year by 472,348,349,000.
