Pat Summitt’s Lady Vols began their quest for another National Championship with a 65 point victory over Stetson in the opening round of the NCAA Women’s Tournament. Perhaps the Lady Vols were looking to avenge the thirty point loss suffered by Bruce Pearl and the men’s team at the hands of Michigan one day earlier.
Tennessee Opens Women’s NCAA Tournament With 65-Point Rout Of Stetson
Every Lady Vol that suited up scored in the game as Stetson was outscored by at least 30 points in each half. In case you were wondering where a 65 point margin of victory ranks in the Tennessee record book, it isn’t even in the top 10 amongst largest margin of victories recorded by the Lady Vols. In team history there have been at least ten instances where the Lady Vols have defeated an opponent by 73 points or more. The No. 1 largest margin of victory was an incredible 136-26 victory over Puerto Rico-Mayaguez in 2002.
Conversely the biggest loss the Lady Vols were ever suffered was a 31 point loss to Texas in 1984.
