Somewhere during ESPN’s live taping of College GameDay this past weekend, Bob Knight forgot you can’t curse on live television. Here’s video of Knight’s slip-up, as well as a solidly halfhearted apology from Rece Davis:

And with all due respect to all the higher-ups at ESPN, what did they think was going to happen putting Bob Knight on live TV? It’s not quite putting Tracy Morgan on live TV, but close enough. You’re pretty much walking right into it.
Which is why you have to love Knight’s attitude, at least in this setting. Jay Bilas tweeted this past weekend (since deleted) that an ESPN producer yelled at Knight after the cursing, saying, “You can’t say ‘Chicken S**t’ on live TV!” To which Knight responded, “You can once.” ... He’s got a point, doesn’t he?
So, here’s to Bob Knight blazing a trail for Charles Barkley later this spring, and keeping things honest. Sports are a lot more fun with the guys that aren’t afraid to call out “chicken s**t” defenses and don’t really care about what’s supposed to be allowed on television.
It would also be more fun with Tracy Morgan announcing everything, but maybe that’ll come next year. As for Coach Knight, he’s always been worshiped as a coach, but I’ll always remember him for his f**kin soundbytes to those goddamn media s**tbags he liked so much.
