UNLV Basketball Publicly Releases List Of Head Coach Candidates

UNLV Runnin’ Rebels athletic director Jim Livengood needs a basketball coach to replace the departed Lon Kruger. In a move perhaps meant to out-crazy N.C. State Wolfpack AD Debbie Yow’s #shotsfired -- because VEGAS! WOO! -- Livengood went and publicly named the four men in the runnin’ to take over the program.

There’s an American Idol quality to Mike Dunlap, Reggie Theus, Dave Rice, and Ernie Kent being outed as possible UNLV coaches, though this does make one wonder why Stacey Augmon and company were not included. To make the thing more Vegas, UNLV really should’ve posted odds next to each coach’s name.

After thinking about it, really don’t see why this is a problem. It’s weird, but what ill can come of it for the program? Is Miami going to decide to poach BYU assistant Rice after having seen him on this list? Don’t we want to live in a world in which UNLV does wacky stuff all day long for no good reason? Didn’t we enjoy the early 1990s?
