The story of the day on Thursday was the brawl during a matchup between the Georgetown Hoyas and Bayi Rockets of China in what was supposed to be a friendly exhibition. The game took a turn for the worse after physical play and uneven foul calls led to rising tempers and, eventually, an all-out brawl between the two teams. Water bottles rained down from the crowd and video of the incident drew widespread attention, serving as the watercooler topic for sports fans everywhere.
Chris Douglas-Roberts Tweets About Georgetown Basketball Brawl, Fight Strategy
Everyone had an opinion on the brawl, including former Memphis player Chris Douglas-Roberts. Hours after the video surfaced, Roberts took to Twitter to share his off-the-wall thoughts on the brawl, fight strategy and a failed negotiation that occurred during the melee.
Though his tweets were later deleted, screencaps can be found after the jump.
First, Douglas-Roberts discusses fight strategy and the art of stomping exhibited by Bayi players early in the brawl.
After discussing fight strategy, Douglas-Roberts noticed a player that deserved to be singled out, in his opinion. No. 22 is Julian Vaughn, according to the Hoyas roster. freshman Otto Porter (thanks to Hire Esherick in the comments).
He added that he knew he was going to have to delete his tweets, and followed through a short time later. Dougals-Roberts tweets were unexpected, and somewhat entertaining, but painted a completely different picture of the fight than most opinions. It was probably for the best that he deleted his tweets, but perhaps filtering them ahead of time would’ve served him better.
