Brandon Ashley, a five-star power forward recruit out of Oakland, has committed to the University of Arizona, reports Josh Gershon of Scout.com. Ashley had narrowed his list to ‘Zona, UCLA, Oregon and Kentucky, and visited the Tucson campus to meet Wildcats coach Sean Miller over the weekend before committing.

Ashley’s not a huge surprise for Arizona, but he’s still a big fish. The class of 2012 recruit could be joined by other huge names, as top-five prospect Shabazz Muhamed is reportedly also considered Arizona. Muhamed has also been linked to UCLA.

Miller lost star power forward Derrick Williams to the NBA Draft in June, where the Wildcat went No. 2 overall to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Williams led 'Zona to the Elite Eight, where the 'Cats fell to eventual champ UConn. Arizona won the Pac-10's regular season championship, but came up short against Washington in the conference tournament. Miller has two five-star recruits entering school this season: point guard Josiah Turner from Sacramento and Ashley's old Findlay Prep teamate Nick Johnson, a two-guard.
