No. 21 Marquette vs. No. 23 Louisville: Golden Eagles Erase Slow Start To Earn 74-63 Victory

No. 21 Marquette climbed out of an early 16-point hole to defeat No. 23 Louisville for their third straight conference win.

Led by Darius Johnson-Odom's 19 points, No. 21 Marquette erased an early 18-2 deficit to beat No. 23 Louisville 74-63 and earn its third straight Big East victory.

The Golden Eagles (15-4, 4-2) also got 17 points from DeVante Gardner and 14 from Jae Crowder. U of L (14-5, 2-4) was led by Russ Smith's 20 points and Chris Smith's 19.

The visiting Cardinals, who had won six-of-seven against their longtime rivals, raced out to an early 16-point advantage but then allowed Marquette to carry a four-point lead into halftime and score 40 points in the second half. All in all, Louisville was outscored 72-45 after starting the game on that 18-2 run.

To add insult to injury for Louisville, junior forward Rakeem Buckles injured his left knee midway through the first half and did not return to the game.

The Cardinals have now lost five-of-seven games since beginning the season 12-0.
