No. 8 Duke Vs. St. John’s: Moe Harkless Nearly Led Red Storm To Upset Victory

The Duke Blue Devils got a big double-double out of Mason Plumlee as they held on to defeat Moe Harkless and the St. John’s Red Storm on Saturday afternoon.

The Duke Blue Devils picked up a solid win over the St. John's Red Storm on Saturday as they attempt to eliminate last Saturday's loss to the Florida State Seminoles from everyone's memory. The defense wasn't great, but Duke was able to exit Cameron Indoor with with a 83-76 victory.

The Blue Devils looked like they were going to coast to a blowout victory after leading 45-29 at halftime of the ESPN affair, but St. John's made it a game late. The Red Storm trailed 76-63 with just three minutes left, but St. John's Moe Harkless scored nine points in two minutes and D'Angelo Harrison hit a big three-pointer with 22 seconds left on the clock in a valiant second-half effort before eventually succumbing to the Mike Krzyzewski coached team.

Mason Plumlee led the Blue Devils with 15 points and 17 rebounds -- six on the offensive end -- and fellow forward Ryan Kelly made big free-throws down the stretch as he nearly finished with a double-double of his own with 16 points and nine rebounds.

St. John’s was led by Harkless, a freshman swingman, as he finished with 30 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Harrison added 21 points as the only other Red Storm player to score in double figures.
