Syracuse Vs. West Virginia Video: Goaltending No-Call Dooms Mountaineers

The Syracuse Orange were able to secure a two-point win over the West Virginia Mountaineers on Saturday afternoon. Controversy ensued shortly before the final buzzer, however, when an apparent goaltending violation went uncalled.

The Syracuse Orange picked up a win over the West Virginia Mountaineers on Saturday afternoon, but it wasn't without controversy. The game's officials missed a crucial goaltending call late in the game as the third-ranked Syracuse team escaped with a 63-61 victory.

Darryl Bryant forced a three-pointer late in the game to attempt to give West Virginia the lead that missed badly, but Deniz Kilicli got the offensive rebound and was able to get it back up before the Syracuse defense realized he had the ball. Baye Moussa recovered just soon enough to block the shot, but it appeared as though the basketball had already caromed off the backboard, meaning Moussa's block should have actually been a goaltend.

It’s probably a judgment call, but video of the play in question is embedded below.

Aside from the apparent missed-call, the game was very good throughout as Syracuse led 28-24 at halftime on their way to the home win at the Carrier Dome. Only two Orange players scored in double figures as Brandon Triche scored 18 while Kris Joseph scored 13 points to go along with seven rebounds.

Kevin Jones led the way for the Mountaineers as he scored 20 points while "Truck" Bryant had 12 points after making just two of his nine three-point attempts. Gary Browne chipped in 11 points off the bench to complete the trio of Mountaineers to score in double figures.
