No. 5 Kansas Vs. Iowa State: Cyclones Score Big Upset Over Jayhawks

The No. 5 Kansas Jayhawks suffered their first Big 12 loss Saturday afternoon at the hands of the unranked Iowa State Cyclones.

This has been a crazy year in the Big 12, with Oklahoma State beating No. 2 Missouri the most recent in a string of Top 10 upsets until Saturday afternoon. The No. 5 Kansas Jayhawks went on the road to Iowa State undefeated in conference play, but the Cyclones emphatically ended that streak, defeating the Jayhawks 72-64.

Iowa State's unquestioned star, Royce White, delivered a stellar performance to propel his team to victory. The Cyclones' leader in points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks per game registered a line of 18 points, nine rebounds and five assists, leading the team. The Cyclones' big advantage was at the line — they shot 34 free throws compared to 16 by Kansas — and on the glass, posting a 34-19 rebounding margin.

Kansas got double-digit scoring from every starter, but couldn't overcome being thoroughly dominated on the boards and at the line. Tyshawn Taylor played one of the very best games of his career, scoring 16 points and doling out 10 assists, with two steals and just two turnovers. Thomas Robinson, who many have called the leader for National Player of the Year honors, had 13 points, seven rebounds and five turnovers.
