No. 9 Georgetown Vs. Pittsburgh: Panthers Knock Off Hoyas In Big East Upset, 72-60

The No. 9 Georgetown Hoyas were victims of upset Saturday in college hoops, falling by 12 to Pitt on the road.

The Pittsburgh Panthers started Big East play 0-7, but they suddenly find themselves on a two-game conference winning streak after upsetting the No. 9 Georgetown Hoyas at the Petersen Events Center in downtown Pittsburgh, an arena in which the Panthers are now 12-0 against Top 10 teams.

The Panthers led by a comfortable margin all game long, and they're clearly a much better team with point guard Tray Woodall in the lineup, who was injured until the team's last game, a 12-point win over Providence. Woodall didn't shoot well in this game, but he dished out 10 assists and keyed the Panthers' attack, which was effective against the Hoyas' front line. Pitt shot 52.1 percent, and most impressive was Nasir Robinson, who was 9-9 for 23 points and had eight rebounds.

The Hoyas were led by freshman forward Otto Porter, who scored 14 points to go with six rebounds, two blocks and no turnovers. The Hoyas didn't play all that poorly — they turned the ball over less than the Panthers and shot 42.1 percent — but they were outrebounded by 11 and made just seven free throws (they shot 12) compared to Pitt's 19-22 effort at the line.
