In the biggest upset of a day full of them, the No. 13 San Diego State Aztecs fell 77-60 to the Colorado State Rams.
Taking advantage of the Aztecs' ice cold shooting, the Rams used six three-pointers, 100 percent shooting on 23 free throw attempts, 49 percent shooting from the field and a +10 rebounding margin to score the upset; always a good recipe for a victory. Junior guard Wes Eikmeier led the Rams with 19 points and junior forward Pierce Hornung had eight points and 13 rebounds.
The Aztecs will be shaking their heads after this one for a while. They shot 31.3 percent from the field and 3-21 from deep, which is a great way to shoot yourself into a loss. Sophomore guard Jamaal Franklin scored 24 points on 8-18 shooting, and had the most efficient performance by an Aztec. Guards Chase Tapley, Xavier Thames and James Rahon combined to shoot 6-36 for 24 points, the trio going just 1-12 from deep. This game is clearly an anomaly for the Aztecs, but it counts all the same.
