The Connecticut Huskies apparently didn't do enough scouting on their Tuesday night opponent, the Seton Hall Pirates, and it came back to bite them in the end. The eighth-ranked Huskies trailed by 13 points at halftime and weren't able to turn it around in the second half as the Pirates hung on for a 75-63 upset victory.
Seton Hall Vs. UConn: Pirates Upset No. 8 Huskies, 75-63
The Seton Hall Pirates upset the Connecticut Huskies in a Big East game on Tuesday night. Andre Drummond and the No. 8 Huskies couldn’t contain Seton Hall’s Herb Pope and Jordan Theodore.
Seton Hall was led by senior big man Herb Pope as he hauled in 15 points to go with eight rebounds and three blocked shots, despite a poor shooting night for someone who makes his living playing in the post. Pope had a difficult match-up in Connecticut freshman Andre Drummond, but Drummond struggled his way to just four points against a player he had never even heard of earlier this week.
“I don’t even know who Herb Pope is,” Drummond told the media following Monday’s practice. “I’m not trying to be disrespectful. They said the name to me in practice and I was like `Wait, who’s Herb Pope?’”
The Pirates also got a solid contribution from guard Jordan Theodore as he hit three three-pointers on his way to 19 points and 11 assists to help the Pirates upset the Huskies.
Connecticut was led by sophomore Jeremy Lamb as the lanky wing scored 19 points, but the rest of the starting lineup was held to just 15 total points as they shot 5-of-22 from the field.
