The No. 10 Louisville Cardinals hosted the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Saturday afternoon. The first half of the game saw Louisville take a lead and look like they were on their way to another victory. In the end, however, the Irish had forced two overtime period and eventually handed the Cardinals their first Big East loss of the season.
Louisville Vs. Notre Dame Final Score: Eric Atkins, Jack Cooley Lead Irish To 67-65 Double Overtime Win
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish visited the Louisville Cardinals on Saturday and handed the No. 10-ranked home team their first Big East loss of the season.
Louisville took a 28-24 lead into halftime before Notre Dame bounced back. The Irish trailed by six points with only 2:31 remaining in regulation when they went on an 8-2 run, culminating with an Eric Atkins three-pointer with 28 seconds left to tie the game at 50-50 and eventually send the game to overtime.
In the first OT, Notre Dame again trailed, 58-57 with 11 seconds left, but Atkins drew a foul and sank one of his two free throws to tie the game and move to a second overtime. This time, Atkins made two jumpers and a pair of free throws in the final minute to put the Irish up 67-63 before the game came to an end with the Cardinals taking the 67-65 loss.
Notre Dame forward Jack Cooley led all scorers in the game with 18 points, also picking up a double-double with 10 rebounds. Guard Scott Martin also managed a double-double, finishing with 11 points and 12 boards.
