Saint Mary’s had compiled a 22-2 record and an unblemished mark in West Coast Conference play. Then the Gaels visited Gonzaga on Thursday night, and the previous potentate of the WCC gave them a beatdown in Moraga.

Gonzaga handed Saint Mary’s its first West Coast Conference loss of the 2011-12 season on Thursday night.
Gonzaga got 27 points from Kevin Pangos and used a 26-10 stretch early in the half to recover from a Saint Mary's run that tied the game at 45-all to cruise to the first win any WCC has scored off the Gaels this season. Gary Bell and Robert Sacre each added 12 points for the Bulldogs, and Elias Harris had 10 points and 10 rebounds off the bench.
The Gaels' usually potent three-point shooting deserted them in the loss: Saint Mary's made just five of 21 tries from deep. Matthew Dellavedova scored 20 points to lead the Gaels, but only Jorden Page (11 points) and Brad Waldow (10 points) joined him in double figures.
