Nearly two weeks after Murray State, the last unbeaten team in Division I college hoops, finally lost a game, Binghamton University, the last team without a victory, finally won. The Bearcats defeated Vermont, 57-53, on Tuesday night, improving to 1-26 on the season.

Vermont, the American East conference leaders, entered the game riding a 10-game win streak. Binghamton, meanwhile, was desperately trying to avoid an 0-30 season, which would have eclipsed New Jersey Tech’s 0-29 season in 2008 to set a new Division I record in futility.
Sophomore Robert Mansell led Binghamton with 18 points, while freshman Ben Dickinson notched a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards.
Binghamton’s fall from grace has been swift. Their last appearance in the NCAA Tournament was only in 2009, but a slew of NCAA violations (drugs, academics, theft -- you name it, they probably did it) led to almost half the team being kicked off the roster the very next season. They’re basically rebuilding the program from scratch, so kudos to them for finally seeing some results.
