The Notre Dame Fighting Irish hadn't lost since midway through January, going on a 9-game winning streak that included wins over Syracuse, UConn and Marquette. Call it a case of looking ahead--the Irish will visit the No. 9 Georgetown Hoyas on Monday--but on Saturday they were nowhere near as sharp as they have been, going 4-for-31 from behind the 3-point arc in a 61-58 loss to the St. John's Red Storm.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish went 4-for-31 from behind the 3-point line in a 61-58 loss to the St. John’s Red Storm on Saturday. The loss ended a 9-game winning streak.
The Red Storm never trailed after going up 3-0 on a Sir'Dominic Pointer 3-pointer just 25 seconds into the game. From there, Moe Harkless took over. He led the Red Storm with 12 points in the first half, and 22 overall on 8-for-16 shooting. He also went 5-for-7 from the free throw line, helping St. John's to a 10-point advantage solely from the charity stripe.
Jack Cooley led the Irish with 18 points on the day. Not surprisingly, all of his points came on a 7-for-10 performance from inside the 3-point line. Jerian Grant and Eric Atkins went a combined 1-for-10 from long range for seven total points. Pat Connaughton came off the bench and struggled mightily, going 1-for-9 on his treys and just 3-for-12 for the game.
Notre Dame was able to force 16 turnovers to keep the game tight, but ultimately their awful shooting performance was their undoing. After the Hoyas, the Irish will finish up their regular season at home against Providence. The Red Storm improved to 13-16 on the year. They will play at Pittsburgh on Wednesday and will visit the following Saturday.
