The No. 5 Kansas Jayhawks rallied from a 19-point second-half deficit in overtime, outlasting the No. 3 Missouri Tigers 87-86 in what might be the final meeting between the two rivals for a long time.
The Tigers had control for much of the early goings but the Jayhawks stormed back in the second half, setting up one of the wildest finishes in the rivalry’s 105-year history.
Kansas forward Thomas Robinson tied the game with a three-point play with 16.1 seconds remaining and followed it up by blocking the possible game-winner as seconds ticked away in regulation.
In overtime, Kansas jumped out to an early four-point lead but the Tigers came right back behind Marcus Denmon, who hit a clutch three with 38 seconds left. Denmon then gave Missou the lead with seconds left.
Tyshawn Taylor then drove to the hoop for Kansas, drawing a foul, hitting both free throws and putting the Jawhawks ahead for good. A last-second three-point attempt by Missouri was shot too late and Kansas held on for the 87-86 victory.
Taylor netted nine of his 24 points in the extra session for Kansas (24-5, 14-2 Big 12), which clinched at least a share of the Big 12 regular season conference title. Marcus Denmon scored 28 points and Ricardo Ratliffe provided 22 points and 12 boards for Missouri (25-4, 12-4), which lost its second consecutive game.
