The 2012 WCC Tournament has been known to produce its share of teams that have made noise in the NCAA Tournament in past years so, when its schedule tips off on Wednesday night in Las Vegas, it probably makes sense for March Madness fans to take notice.

The Santa Clara Broncos and Portland Pilots are scheduled to meet at 9 p.m. ET to begin the WCC's tournament weekend. Portland is the eight seed in the tournament after struggling through the conference season with a 3-13 record, though their first-round opponents struggled even more as Santa Clare went 0-16 in conference games despite compiling an 8-21 overall record.

The winner of Wednesday night's game will meet up with the No. 5 San Francisco Dons as they look to advance the long way through the tournament. The top two seeds, and therefore championship favorites, are the Saint Mary's Gaels and Gonzaga Bulldogs.

The road to the guaranteed spot in the NCAA Tournament will obviously be difficult for most teams in the tourney considering Gonzaga and St. Mary’s have byes until Saturday, but anything is possible during March Madness, right?
