The Michigan Wolverines have enjoyed a renaissance of success against their arch rivals lately, winning three in a row over the Michigan State Spartans heading into Sunday's showdown. The Wolverines couldn't make it a fourth, however, getting dominated on the boards at the Breslin Center. Draymond Green had 14 points and 16 rebounds in the 64-54 win.
No. 23 Michigan Vs. No. 9 Michigan State: Spartans Dominate Inside, Win 64-54 At Home
The Michigan State Spartans dominated their instate rivals on the boards, on their way to a 64-54 win Sunday. Tim Hardaway Jr. shot just 1-for-10 from the field for the Wolverines.
For the game, the Spartans enjoyed a 39-15 rebounding advantage. The Wolverines have struggled against opponents with superior size throughout the season, with Zack Novak and Jordan Morgan standing at just 6-4 and 6-8 respectively in the front court. To stay competitive, Michigan needed to shoot lights out from 3-point range. Instead, they went just 7-for-22 from beyond the arc.
Tim Hardaway Jr. came into the game leading the Wolverines with 15.1 points per game. He went just 1-for-10 from the field on Sunday, and was held scoreless throughout the first half. Keith Appling and Branden Dawson added 10 points each to improve the Spartans to 18-5 on the year. The Wolverines fell to 17-7.
