Like bowl games in college football, post-season tournaments have begun to proliferate throughout college basketball.
CBI Tournament 2012 Bracket Released: Butler Bulldogs Headline Field
Sixteen more college basketball teams get a chance at post-season play in the CBI.

While it used to be just the NCAA and the NIT, in recent years, the CBI and the CIT have sprung up because ... well because why not.
It’s a reward for many above average mid-major programs who aren’t very attractive to the NIT selection committee, who are worried more about who draws TV ratings as they the on-court product. However, a CBI berth isn’t nearly as attractive for the Power Six conference teams who make the field, and it’s certainly not going to help a coach on the hot seat keep his job.
The 2012 CBI tournament will begin on Tuesday, March 13 and end with a best-of-three championship series starting on Monday, March 26.
Here is the first-round schedule:
Tuesday, March 13: Milwaukee vs. TCU, Washington State vs. San Francisco, Princeton vs. Evansville
Wednesday, March 14: Western Illinois vs. Oregon State, North Dakota State vs. Wyoming, Delaware vs. Butler, Quinnipiac vs. Penn, Wofford vs. Pittsburgh
