Darrin Horn Fired At South Carolina

After a disappointing four-year run in Columbia, South Carolina has fired head basketball coach Darrin Horn.

After four seasons with the program, South Carolina will not retain Darrin Horn as its head basketball coach. The news was first reported by Columbia sportswriter David Cloninger.

USC athletic director Eric Hyman is expected to make the official announcement during a 1:30 p.m. ET press conference on Tuesday afternoon.

Horn came to South Carolina after five seasons as the coach at Western Kentucky, where he became a hot commodity after taking the Hilltoppers to the Sweet 16 in 2008. He was never able to get the Gamecocks into the NCAA Tournament, however, and finished with a losing record in the SEC in three of his four seasons in Columbia.

South Carolina ended the 2011-12 season with a record of 10-21 and went just 2-14 in SEC play. They lost 11 of their final 12 games, including a 63-57 defeat against Alabama in the first round of the conference tournament.

Jeff Goodman of CBSSports.com has already mentioned Wichita State’s Gregg Marshall as a potential candidate to replace Horn. Marshall will lead the fifth-seeded Shockers in the NCAA Tournament beginning on Thursday.
