The 2012 Final Four schedule was set on Sunday afternoon following the conclusion of the Elite Eight portion of the NCAA Tournament bracket. There isn’t a lot of chalk involved, either, as only the overall top seed was able to advance all the way to the semifinals of the March Madness bracket.
Final Four 2012 Schedule: Battle For The Bluegrass Rematch Highlights Semifinals
The 2012 Final Four schedule was released following the conclusion of Sunday’s games in the NCAA Tournament’s bracket.
The Final Four games will take place in New Orleans on Saturday evening, starting at the peculiar time of 6:09 p.m., with a “Battle for the Bluegrass” postseason rematch starting off the festivities. The second game doesn’t have a catchy nickname, but should represent good basketball as well when it tips off at 8:49 if the first game ends on time.
The Kentucky Wildcats will once again meet their intrastate rivals when the top-seeded team plays Rick Pitino and the Louisville Cardinals for the second time this season. John Calipari's Wildcats are current riding a three-game winning streak over the Cardinals, increasing their series lead to 29-14 since the two teams played each other first way back in 1913. The two teams are tied at two games apiece in the NCAA Tournament with their last meeting coming in 1984's Sweet 16.
The nightcap will feature a couple of other storied programs with a bit of history as the Ohio St. Buckeyes face the Kansas Jayhawks for the right to play for the National Championship. The Jayhawks picked up a 78-67 victory over the Buckeyes in December, but Saturday's game will likely be played a bit differently considering Buckeyes' star Jared Sullinger missed their earlier meeting due to injury.
