The No. 1 Kentucky Wildcats have been on a tear this entire season, which has brought them straight to the Final Four with no sign of slowing down. One of the driving forces of the team all year has been freshman sensation Anthony Davis. Davis developed a fervent following and captured the hearts of the Kentucky faithful during the regular season, but has stood out as a star with immense talent during his time on the national stage in the 2012 NCAA Tournament.

On Friday, the Associated Press named Davis the AP Player of the Year. He received 43 of 65 votes to take home the trophy.

“My expectations were nothing like this; I wasn’t planning on any awards,” he said of how he approached his first - and what many project will be his only - season in college basketball. “I have to thank my teammates for those lob passes for easy baskets and for them getting beat off the dribble for all those blocked shots. Without them there are no awards.”

Davis is the first Kentucky player and only the second freshman to ever be named AP Player of the Year.
