On The Whole, Ticket Prices Down For Most Conference Tournaments

Despite seeing a significant dip in prices, the Big East is still by far the most expensive conference tournament ticket around, according to TiqIQ’s data.

Ticket prices are down almost across the board for the “major” conference basketball tournaments, according to secondary-market data gathered by TiqIQ. The only two conferences to see a price increase over the past year are the SEC tournament (up 42 percent) and the Big 12 (up 26 percent).

Interestingly, one of the bigger percentage price drops belonged to the Big East, where the average ticket price is down 27 percent from last year. Despite the drop, which represents about a $79 discount over last year, the tickets are still going for $212, more than any other tournament.

True to form, the most expensive session amongst all tournaments is Session 5 (Thursday afternoon) in the Big East, when Syracuse is playing. The average price is $405.17, with a “get-in” price of $122 (the second most expensive is the Big East Semi’s - $391.99). The most expensive championship game, though, belongs to the Big 12, which is currently selling for an average of $334.65 and a “get-in” price of $136.

On the other end of the spectrum are the Big Ten and SEC. The average ticket to see the Big Ten tournament is just $99. The SEC, despite a dramatic increase of 42 percent over last year, is still a relative bargain at $119.
