New Mexico Vs. Air Force: Lobos Advance To Semifinals With 79-64 Win Over Falcons

The New Mexico Lobos showed why they won 25 games this season, jumping out to a 45-31 first-half lead on the Air Force Falcons on their way to a 79-64 win in the Quarterfinals of the 2012 Mountain West Conference Tournament.

Sophomore guard Demetrius Walker led the Lobos with 19 points on five-of-six shooting, hitting three of his four three-point attempts. Forward Drew Gordon added 15 points and seven rebounds, while guard Kendall Williams had 10 points to go along with his five assists.

Both squads performed well from the floor, with the Lobos shooting 46.5 percent from the floor and the Falcons a stellar 22-of-44 (50 percent), and each team was over 36 percent on three-point attempts. Thanks to their big lead, New Mexico held a decided edge in free throw attempts, converting on 31-of-37 attempts while the Falcons were just 15-of-22. The Lobos also out-rebounded the Falcons 29-19, limiting Air Force to just one offensive rebound on the night.

For the Falcons, guard Michael Lyons played all 40 minutes and had a team-high 17 points on four-of-14 shooting, while guard Kyle Green added 14 points in 25 minutes before fouling out.

With the win, the Lobos will face the winner of tonight's nightcap, which pits the Wyoming Cowboys against the UNLV Runnin' Rebels. A complete Mountain West Tournament bracket is available here.
